Nothing says "fresh today" like handwriting. A well-kept chalkboard makes a pub, cafe or deli feel personal and current, and it costs nothing to update. The trick is choosing a surface and frame that survives the weather and keeps writing legible.
Chalk A-boards
Our wooden chalk A-boards are joinery-quality timber, stained and lacquered for outdoor use, with exterior chalk-face laminated panels and non-slip feet. They come in small, medium and large, in standard, premium and reversible styles. Steel A-boards with chalkboard laminate panels and a budget A-board with a chalkboard face are listed here too.
Wall chalkboards
Framed chalkboards come in an indoor version and a weatherproof outdoor version, from 361 x 460 mm to 793 x 1163 mm, and hang, suspend or lean on a fixing kit. Unframed 3 mm high pressure laminate boards are black through and through, writable on both sides and pre-drilled for the wall.
Easels and table boards
A timber easel holds chalkboards (or poster frames up to A0) at five heights. Counter chalkboards in beech bases come in pairs, and round-topped table boards sit in spring-grip aluminium bases.
Chalk or liquid chalk pens
Traditional chalk gives a soft look but smudges and washes off in rain. Liquid chalk pens are brighter, rainproof about an hour after writing and wipe off with a damp cloth. Some surfaces, such as the budget A-board chalk face and chalk insert panels, work with pens only.
Printed chalkboards
Many boards can be printed: your logo or a fixed header printed on the board, with space below for the day's writing. Printed framed boards start at 10 units.
Looking after them
Clean chalk with a dry cloth and pen with a damp cloth or household cleaner. Bring timber boards in overnight in wet weather to extend their life. Writing large and simple, with one colour for headings, keeps a busy board readable.
Pavement rules
A chalk A-board on the pavement is treated like any other A-board. Rules differ between councils and between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so check with your local council before you put anything on a public pavement.

Yes, all of them. Some, like chalk insert panels and the budget A-board chalk face, are for liquid chalk pens only.
Will a chalk A-board survive outside?
The wooden chalk A-boards and outdoor framed boards are made for outdoor use; bring them in during heavy rain to extend their life.
Can you print my logo on a chalkboard?
Yes, most boards offer a printed option so the logo stays while you change the writing.
How do I clean liquid chalk pen?
